Annie J. Dahlgren: Music

Farewell Babylon

(Annie J. Dahlgren)
September 15, 2012
Annie J. Dahlgren, Kate Wallace

In telling what this song was about at my CD release show the other night, I was bemoaning the fact that there was really no way for anyone to know that this song is about mental illness - and knowing that suddenly makes the words make sense.

Then I remembered it's the 21st century and I have the internet and Host Baby right here at my disposal - so...it's about mental illness.

Tell everyone.

Farewell Babylon

It was there when I woke up this morning, like an unbidden secret hidden in the wind

A nightmare is mounting its forces and I'm a stranger in my own skin

The green is gone - the gray victorious

Close the doors and windows - put the lock on

My eye is on the horizon.  Farewell, Babylon.

I'm gonna walk on until I find the circus.  I remember the gypsies used to come around.

Know a little something about the high wire - familiar with the face behind the clown.

Try and get this message to my sister.

Tell her I don't know how long I'll be gone.

Tell don't worry...and I'm sorry.  Farewell, Babylon.

Try and get this message to my sister.  Tell her I don't know how long I'll be gone.

Look after my good dog, and miss me.  Farewell, Babylon.
